Barclays Makes New Hire to Lead Markets Innovation

Barclays has made a new appointment to support its innovation plans in electronic banking. The bank has hired Justin Brickwood as MD, head of markets innovation, based in London. Brickwood will join in September and report to CIO John Stecher. He will pursue development in a number of the bank’s interest areas, notably AI and machine learning, partnering with colleagues across markets and technology. The move is part of Barclays’ broader focus on digitisation, announced by CEO Jes Stanley in the bank’s Q3 2017 earnings. Within the new strategy, the bank has said that partnerships are “top of the agenda as a strong lever for future growth and joint value creation.” To support this goal, the bank is currently recruiting for a partnership engagement manager to drive efforts in the Nordics.
