Oracle Locks in Users with New Hybrid Cloud Solution

Oracle has introduced its own hybrid cloud solution, the Oracle Cloud Native Framework. The OCNF is designed for organisations looking to build hybrid cloud architectures across both public cloud and on-premises architecture. The new solution comprises a set of cloud-native managed services and on-premises software. The Oracle Cloud Native Framework also introduces Oracle Functions, a new serverless cloud service based on the open-source Fn Project. For the on-premises side, Oracle Cloud Native Framework uses Oracle Linux Cloud Native Environment, which is built on Oracle Linux. The public cloud part of Oracle Cloud Native Framework connects to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Oracle’s IaaS platform, which allows organisations to build and run applications in Oracle’s cloud data centers. The solution, therefore, appears to be targeted at locking in existing Oracle users, undergoing a cloud migration. It appears less friendly to users of competing cloud services, even as Oracle trails behind cloud vendors like AWS, Microsoft,  Google and others worldwide.
