Crowd testing to accelerate DevOps: Credit Suisse case study

ivoedit-1602258239

The crowd as a testing resource for mobile apps has been useful to Credit Suisse in two fundamental ways, according to Ivo Meier, who heads testing for the Swiss bank’s private wealth division and who will be leading a QA Financial digital seminar this week at 11.00am CET / 10.00am BST  on October 14th.

Yes, there is the widely recognised benefit of being able to quickly test the functionality of new apps, or changes to apps. The testing of device compatibility and coverage typically spring to mind when crowd testing is considered. But in Switzerland, where four national languages are spoken and English is also widely used, crowd testers can be used very effectively to pick up on simple errors in spelling and cultural nuance that make a big difference to customers’s decisions.

But banks can also use crowd-sourcing for more strategic insight; as an alternative to more expensive consultancy services. Meier will explain in the seminar how crowd-sourcing has help his team accelerate the shift left to DevOps working practices, spread best practice more effectively across the business and to improve the overall quality of online banking.

Ivo Meier will also discuss how Covid-19 has affected functional testing requirements – especially as cyber-crime risks have increased over recent months – and how bank regulators’ views on crowd testing have evolved.
